Weekly letter February 1

Dear Parents,

We hope you had a great weekend. Please take note of the following information.

• Remember to read to your child 10-15 minutes daily. This is homework. Your child is taking a small book home today. Please allow your child to read it to you. This may be used as the title for one day. Remember to send it back by Friday.
  
• Congratulations to our Student of the week

• Please remember it is very important for you to read the blog at least once a week.
  
• Show and Tell is every Wednesday. Please help your child choose an object he or she will share. Sharing helps students develop oral language and boost their confidence.
  
• February 1^st-5^th is Friendship week. Children will be wearing a special friendship bracelet. Please allow your child to wear it the whole week.
  
• Tomorrow we will celebrate our 100^th Day of school! If you did not send the t-shirt or the 100 items please do so by tomorrow.Thank you for your support.
  
• Remember sight words will be evaluated every Friday. It will be done in a cumulative way, starting with 4 then 8 etc.
  
• Please send back your Report Cards signed.
  
• Thank you for coming to the values conference. We hope you enjoyed it.

This week we will be learning about:

Language: Letter Dd, sound, vocabulary and letter recognition.

Sight words: said, that, and, is.

Phonemic Awareness: Written blending with pictures.(match CAT with a picture of a cat)

Math: Addition to 10 and the concept of before.

Science: Animals (mammals)

Activities for January 27

• Draw a set of 30 lollipops.
  
• Write two sentences using two sight words.
  
• Draw five vocabulary words and count the number of syllables in each word. Write the number under the picture.
  
• Copy the math problem and add. Please have your child use small manipulatives such as crayons, cars, beans, balls.

• Please remember it is very important for you to read the blog at least once a week.
  
• Show and Tell is every Wednesday. Please help your child choose an object he or she will share. Sharing helps students develop oral language and boost their confidence.
  
• We are getting close to our 100^th Day of School! To celebrate this day, students must prepare (with parents' help) a white t-shirt with 100 small items glued, pinned or sewn on to it. Please no stickers because these fall off. Be creative!!! This t-shirt must be in school by February 1^st.
  
• Also, to celebrate our 100^th Day of School, please send with your child 100 small objects. These may be small erasers, pencils, sharpeners or any small party favors. You may find a big variety at Yip Store. No candy please.

• This quarter we will begin working with sight words. Sight words are words that children will find often when reading, and use in their writing. Children must identify these words by sight. This will help them become strong readers and writers. Sight words will be evaluated every Friday. It will be done in a cumulative way, starting with 4 then 8 ect..
